step01
3 times stronger than aluminum alloy, the stainless steel we select for the frame is incredibly thin yet robust. Once pressed and cut, positioning holes are punched to hold the steel plate in place during the manufacturing process. Functional holes that appear in the finished design are also added.

After cutting, the steel plate goes through 100-tonne impulse drawing and oil hydraulic press forging to shape the frame of the phone. Remaining residues are scoured off and additional annealing and forging processes take place lasting over 10 hours, to further harden the steel.

The 8-step CNC milling process involves 58 separate operations to shape the frame as well as create the chamfer and 45 speaker holes, each measuring 0.6mm across. It's extremely precise, with a maximum permitted margin of error at 0.03mm.

The chamfer edges are masked before the sides and back of the frame are sandblasted with zirconium microspheres till their surfaces are as smooth as silk.

Sputtering takes place in a vacuum chamber, bonding the atoms of another metal to the steel frame, strengthening it and producing a finish that's highly resistant to fading and scratches. Nano-grade anti-fingerprint (AF) coating makes the frame extremely water repellent.

A highly focused laser beam vaporizes stainless steel in seconds, separating the frame cleanly from the unneeded metal. 2 skilled technicians polish the frame, and remove all burrs and residue in the cut-off areas. The frame undergoes no fewer than 3 quality assurance inspections to ensure it meets rigorous Mi quality standards.
